Dev(eloper) Blog - Conceptualization

When it comes to any project's conceptualization, I first start with an idea illustrated by mood boards.


Mood boarding has always helped me as a starting point to where the final product will be. Inspiration from others or the things around me is very important to my process and for this project in particular.


As an example, here is my process in creating one of the uniforms for the Cupids in The Cupid Catastrophe. I pulled a lot of inspiration from 80s Japanese idol styling, lolita styles, sailor uniforms, and magical girl concepts. I wanted something that screamed Valentine's and gravitated towards a palette that I see a lot in Valentine's cards and decorations.


Another thing I had to work on is the look of the game itself. I wanted it to also have a palette and design that looked like something you'd see on Valentine's Day.

I also use mood boards as inspiration for character design. Here is an example of a love interest in The Cupid Catastrophe and the mood board that inspired them:
